President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, while announcing the decisions of the cabinet meeting, stated that the name 'TURKEY' will no longer be used for our country in the international arena, not the expression 'Turkey', and said, "All institutions of the state will no longer use the expression 'Turkey' in all our correspondence, they will use the name Türkiye completely. We took this decision in our Cabinet Meeting today." The first step was taken quickly and NATO was notified.
President Erdogan's statements are as follows:
The fact that we changed the official name of our country from 'Turkey' to 'Türkiye' at the United Nations last week is one of the symbols of this new era.
From now on, all international interlocutors of our country, our own institutions and organizations, and our citizens will be able to express the name of their state as Türkiye. From now on, in all our correspondence, all institutions of the state will no longer use 'Turkey' together, they will use the name Turkey.
We have taken this decision in our Cabinet Meeting today, and in fact, this correspondence has now completely entered the agenda at the United Nations.
